How Can I Straighten My Teeth?

Crooked or crowded teeth can be the cause of more than just embarrassment about your smile. A crowded or crooked set of teeth can change the stability and function of your bite possibly leading to serious dental problems down the road.

Spink Dentistry offers treatment with clear aligners, aka invisible braces, for a wide range of dental health and cosmetic concerns. We work with Invisalign®, MTM Clear Aligners and the Inman Aligner to achieve your new smile for adults, discreetly and with a minimum of discomfort. For two week periods, over the course of a year, these aligner systems gently and discreetly reposition your teeth with little impact on your daily activities. Invisible braces can give you the smile you want without the change in your appearance, discomfort or other difficulties caused by traditional metal braces.

With invisible braces patients can still enjoy their favorite foods. Oral hygiene remains just as easy as before the patient began treatment since the aligners are removable so the patient can brush and floss as usual. These clear aligners are designed to be worn for about 22 hours a day and won’t irritate the patients’ gums or sensitive areas of the mouth with rough metal edges like traditional braces can. Dr. Spink will give you an initial examination and consult with you to determine which make of invisible braces is the right choice for you.

If it appears that Invisalign, the most well known maker of clear aligners, is an option, we will take photographs, x-rays, and an impression of your teeth. We will then complete further diagnostic analysis to verify that Invisalign will work for you and create a treatment plan that will determine exactly how the teeth are straightened. At that time, we will be able to let you know if you qualify for orthodontic insurance benefits and the estimated cost and length of treatment.

When the treatment plan is complete, your records will be sent to Invisalign along with Dr. Spink’s instructions. Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign will translate the instructions into a series of precisely customized aligners.

Even though our teeth are usually set in place by the time we are adults, that does not mean you are too old or it’s too late to undergo orthodontic treatment to have straighter teeth. Many adults undergo treatment with clear aligners or even traditional braces and are satisfied with the experience.  Invisible braces treat mild to moderate orthodontic issues but they can also be used to address minor tooth movement after previous orthodontic treatment, preserving the results of previous orthodontic care, saving you time and money. They are also a viable option to treat underbite, overbite, and other tooth spacing concerns.

The value of straightening crooked or overlapping teeth is more than just cosmetic. Crooked teeth are more prone to be damaged or to decay, both of which are issues that may cause more health problems in the future. Serious overbite or underbite can alter the stability of your bite which can also affect your oral health. Studies have shown that teeth that are straight are less likely to suffer decay and plaque buildup because they are easier to brush and floss.
